Russian Sunday School LIDER is a community not-for-profit organisation that provides education to children from Russian Jewish and Russian non-Jewish heritage. Our students are children born to families who arrived in Australia from the former Soviet Union.
Our schoolchildren aged between 4 and 14 years come from various ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and are united through the Russian language, culture and history, their ancestors’ homeland. Our curriculum is focused on teaching our children about Australian, Jewish and Russian culture through the medium of the Russian language. Our curriculum is specifically designed to cater to the needs of and create harmony in our diverse community.
The school is conducted by the school executive committee in close ties with the various Russian community organisations to enable the development and maintenance of our community languages, heritage, history, traditions and culture. The majority of the school students’ parents and grandparents are members of these organisations. This provides students with a real feeling of belonging, continuation and a healthy environment. Various outside curriculum activities, including lessons in tradition, history and culture, music and drama, facilitate students’ participation in community activities.
Our mission statement is – to join the efforts of teachers and parents for the benefit of our students.
